The Importance of communication skills for engineers

“While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.”
-Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016)

This quote explains the versatility required of engineers—to embrace diverse methodologies and cultural variations across countries. As a global engineer, the lack of effective communication could become a liability to the team and the project. Not having the same wavelength on languages used, time zone differences, and understanding of cultural diversities could very well cause a grave misunderstanding or pushing of boundaries during a project with global engineers from different countries.

Language barriers, stemming from communication differences or varied terminologies, also present considerable challenges. Thus, it becomes crucial to maintain an open mindset and a positive learning attitude to continuously learn, adapt, and refine our communication skills.

Communication is an evolving skill—a lifelong learning journey that starts at birth and continues until the end of our lives. It's a constant process of refining and enhancing our communication abilities."
